Want a fun and different way to serve up cool summer drinks? How about a tapped keg made from a watermelon?
Here is a watermelon keg that Cindy Rozich, who is one of my student/customers (who has gone pro), made for the 4th of July. Isn’t it fun?
Here is what Cindy had to say about her 4th of July watermelon keg and fruit kabobs. I think both ideas are quite clever.
Hi Nita,
I have attached my carved super sized watermelon keg and the red, white and blue fruit kabobs that went with it. It was for a party today, they said it was a big hit!! They installed an old fashion spicit for the tap! It worked perfectly – no leaks and I sure the rum watermelon punch was enjoyed by all!!!
Hope you are having a wonderful 4th of July,
Cindy Rozich
Watermelon kegs can be used for juice beverages for kids. Plain watermelon juice is delicious on its own. To make it, just puree fresh watermelon in your blender. For a variation, you can add mint or you can make a watermelon lemonade. For an adult drink, you can do the same and just add a bit of vodka or rum. Add ice inside to keep your beverage cold and refreshing.
Here is a better lit photo of Cindy’s carving before she added the spigot. She did a very nice job of carving the words and the flag. You can learn to carve watermelons like this in my video lessons, Carving Letters and Words #1 and #2.
Look at the other clever 4th of July themed snacks that Cindy made – red, white and blue fruit kabobs! The addition of that star shaped marshmallows is especially cute.
These idea are great for the 4th of July, Memorial Day or any other patriotic occasion. But, the watermelon keg idea can also be used any time that large watermelons are in season. You can carve your watermelon with any design that is in keeping with the theme of your party. Learn how with my video lessons, Carving Letters and Words #1 and #2. The techniques you will learn will also apply to carving graphic designs, like Cindy’s flag.
Thank you to Cindy for sharing her 4th of July watermelon keg and fruit kabobs with us. Have fun making your own watermelon kegs.
